2TRAINING COURSES

Course on typical textiles
Course on typical textiles

Vocational
The town of San Antonio Aguas Calientes is regarded as the main center for the development of well-known textiles which are typical of Guatemala. Artisan ladies from San Antonio have gladly accepted the invitation to start a course of tejido tipico in neighboring Alotenango. The first course was held during the month of June 2008. Daily classes were attended by groups of six ladies working on individual looms and producing their first cloth in about a week. Some of the ladies provided guidance for the ladies attending subsequent courses. The project was run by the OAS in cooperation with the CoCoDe (see  Document 3 ). The modest cost of the project was supported by the Foundation: the ladies provided only the material for the production of the clothes. Additional training courses in the areas of carpentry and restauration are currently being offered.

Professors from the Faculty of Engineering of the San Carlos University organized a series of lectures which will be delivered weakly over one year. The courses are attended by about primary school teachers from San Antonio Aguas Calientes and neighboring towns. The Foundation has provided the necessary textbooks selected by the Professors. The courses have stimulated great interest and enthusiasm and will likely be extended to other areas suggested by the school teachers.
