Jepa Courses
3. Impact

The ideal impact of Jepa courses is to train citizens who know the origin of the problems in their country, their rights/duties, know how to vote intelligently and can identify a career consistent with their personal inclinations.

To achieve the above goals we needed to adopt a special methodology for the delivery of propaedeutic classes in history, economics and sociology. An interdisciplinary approach, rather than a multidisciplinary one, had to be used. Moreover, we verified that student interest and participation were enhanced by alternating classes of the propaedeutic disciplines. Therefore we aimed at blocks of relevant sequences rather than following the conventional approach based on courses separated over time (see Archive, Document 6c, which also documents the UNESCO interest in our approach).

A careful identification of suitable teachers proved to be difficult, but not impossible. The possibility of using two specialized tutors able to coordinate their lessons appeared preferable for college students, whereas a single tutor, suitably trained, could be sufficient for high school students. In the long range, if more schools shall adopt the Jepa courses, it will be necessary to establish a formal education of our teachers. We have already identified two well known specialists that expressed interest to be first “teachers of the teachers” (we note that a similar approach had proved to be necessary in the case of the Montessori schools).

To monitor the effectiveness of the courses, it will be necessary to follow the progress of individual students up and beyond the end of their studies. Again, has not yet been possible due to the limited number of courses delivered.

The student evaluation of the F an G parameters by the students entails the determination of F/G as the ratio of subjective and objective indicators. The significance of this methodology was discussed in a recent article by members of the Jepa-Limmat Board (see Journal of Education and Development vol. 6, 2022. https://doi.org/10.20849/jed.v6i4.1256). The analysis will help the students to gain a better grasp of the theoretical basis if their work.
