Environmental Risks
During the month of July 2010 the strong tropical storm Agata caused extensive damage and loss of lives in Guatemala. Governmental measures of prevention and emergency aid appeared grossly inadequate. To reduce the impact of recurrent disasters, the Association Jepa-Guatemala begun the organization of groups of volunteers to assist in first aid emergency situations resulting from landslides, flooding, contaminations. The project was elaborated in cooperation with engineers of the San Carlos University and local firefighters who lectured and directed practical exercitations from September to November in the town of Alotenango. A diploma was issued to the participants, and approved by the National Emergency Committee (CONRED)
